You’re close to the brauhauses: This is not a small thing! Cologne’s Kölsch culture is best experienced in the traditional beer halls scattered through the Old Town, and staying nearby means you can easily wander into one without planning a massive transit outing.
The train station is right there: Given how unpredictable German regional trains can be (as I noted in my full guide), having your hotel a short walk from Köln Hauptbahnhof removes one major stress point from your trip.
You don’t need to figure out public transport: I didn’t use a single tram or bus during my stay in Cologne. Everything was walkable.
